Burning HFS+ Bootable...

Guys, Does anyone know if its possible to burn a Bootable Disc, on a PC?

...Maybe even on Mac OS 8.1?

(BTW i've found it very helpful with a few things i've been doing, and porting things etc )

i have Toast on 8.1!

If Anyone can "Shed Some Light" it'd be appreciated!

NeYo

You're using Toast through emulation under 8.1 on XP, right?

Have you been able to burn anything? I wasn't aware that under emulation the Mac OS was able to speak to the PC hardware reliably...

That is pretty cool if it works.

On my Quadra 950 (running Mac OS 8.1 with Toast 3.5.6), you can make bootable CDs by selecting Mac Volumes and one of the options under Data... allows the CD to be bootable.

Well, i've heard of Peeps who have had Success! ...So i can try atLeast!

...as for, Hardware Reliability, i Dunno if you can include an external 56k Modem?! i managed to get that working!

(That also brings me to a question, any Chance of getting ADSL via PPPoA Connected via emulated 8.1?!)

I'll look into Toast on 8.1, and See what happens!
...So, if i have "some" Success, and get Toast burning, i can create the Bootable Disc, from my DMG?

if its any consilation, its the latest version available for 68k Machines (i can't remember the Ver. No.!)

I believe the last version that would work with 8.1 was either Toast 3.8 or 4.06. Either way, I'd be real surprised if it did work. Rerouting TCP/IP packets from the Mac through the PC isn't really that big an engineering feat. However, when burning a CD, the Mac absolutely needs a steady, uninterrupted stream of data. Emulation usually can't provide such a clean path. Not to mention that Toast will also have to have the correct drivers for the CD-R drive on your PC.

But, at any rate. Yes, if you can get Toast working, you can make a bootable Mac OS 8.1 CD.

Ed's busy working on his yard, IIRC. He mentioned that he'd be checking the boards once in a while, but he's been too tired to do a lot of posting.

I do have to say, NeYo, that if I were in your position, I'd start writing a lot worse just to spite everyone.

(Or, through the Dialectizer):
