| The new iPod -- did Mac users ruin the announcement? So Apple has today announced the new iPod. Not a new generation, more of a "DS Lite" style face lift. I for one was very disappointed. With all the relentless rumors about a screen that spans the entire face, and a touch sensitive display, and a phone, etc., when Steve started displaying the ipod pie charts again I thought at least one of these would finally come true. But no, same iPod, just a bit brighter, and some cool but not astounding new features (games, search, etc). If it weren't for the hype, I'd have been very pleased with this, but thanks to rumor sites I -- and I'm sure many others -- were expecting a heck of a lot more. Maybe Apple needs to start releasing more details to stop other people over-hyping their announcements. What do other people think about the new iPod? cool or yawn? |

| I think that all of those rumored gadgets we've been hearing about are bound to happen (with the exception of the phone, Jobs has been quoted multiple times saying that it isn't the field Apple wishes to join). Just because a full screen, movie streaming, iPod wasn't released today doesn't mean it won't be released in a few days (weeks, months, years, forever). As for the release of the new iPod products... I've been wanting to buy a Nano for school recently and now that they have new colors, brighter screens, and a longer battery life I'm about ready to order mine. I also think the new shuffle is pretty neat. It's a little awkward in my opinion, not very Apple-like. But still cool and futuristic none-the-less. Not a bad batch of updates. *You also forgot to mention the new iTunes store featuring full length movies. Shhawwing.

| I wasn't impressed with the ipod update either. The nano was more impressive to me than than the ipod. Still all together both weren't that impressive. When they add bluetooth syncing and some other features...now thats when i'll run out and buy one to replace my ipod.

| It looks kind of like old iPod Mini got into the iPod Nano barn, and their offspring have managed to inherit all the good traits of each of their parents. ;-) I'm pleased to see that Apple are forging ahead. Movies and games are nice, the illuminated click-wheel will make the iPod even more usable and desirable, and the longer battery life is impressive. I like the looks of the new shuffle though its a shame it had to come at the cost of its "USB-key on a lanyard" styling which made it possible to sneak into any office environment. Good work all round, Apple. I won't be bothering to replace my Nano *yet* but at least we can still say that iPod is definitively the best portable media player on the market.

| The phone will happen as well, if you look at what Apple's been patenting etc. -> http://haligon.blogspot.com/2006/09/...ext-level.html

More details? Apple doesn't release ANY details until the product is announced by Steve on stage. What people hype has nothing to do with what Apple does or doesn't do pre-announcement, because Apple doesn't do a damn thing pre-announcement. These rumor mills are like kids on Christmas expecting an XBox 360 with 15 games and two extra wireless controllers, then pouting and acting disappointed with the rest of their super-fine gifts because they didn't get one specific gift. It's just immature. Disappointment is ridiculous at this point. What's to be disappointed about? How is life or anyone's daily activities any worse off because Apple didn't release the iPhone or a widescreen, touchscreen iPod? My advice: find something worthwhile to be disappointed in, just let Apple do their thing, and buy when they release something you like.

| Did Mac users ruin this announcement? Only some, and only for themselves. Most of the rumors you mentioned are completely new to me, even though I follow Mac/Apple news closely. The only people these rumors are affecting are the ones who actively seek them out. To me, the announcement is good but unsurprising. 640x480 video support is great, but...well, let's be honest: it's just what the original video iPod should have been, so it's nothing to get excited about. I'm not thinking "whoah, look how awesome the new iPod is!" I'm thinking "About time. Now let's try to forget the embarrassment that was the old iPod." Quote:
