Just a good WiFi experience...

My lil' sister now has her own place. And an iBook. And a cable connection. Recently she asked me whether she could have 'wireless internet', too. "Sure," I said and told her what a base station and AP card for her iBook would cost. She handed me the money.

Today she got the wares, and I went to her flat and installed the card and the base station. Everything configured in (and I'm not talking blabla here) less than 8 minutes. Including finding out which power cable belonged to what and fiddling with the stereo's wires (everything tidy behind a desk...).

And when we were having coffee and croissons, I just _had_ to think of all those poor guys who have troubles finding the right drivers for the cards and fiddling with IPs in order to set the station up.

Maybe that's what Apple meant with 'Think Different': Do it the right way.

binaryDigit is on a distinguished road
Actually I'm using a Netgear WAP to talk to my Pismo, no problem getting things setup (well except for some issues with wep and getting my somewhat complex network (three routers, 1 wap) properly configured.

I mentioned this because one Mac thing that really has me hacked off still is the lack of 802.11a support for the Mac. Sure sure, g is available NOW, finally. Didn't do me any good last year when I had the 'a' wap and no way to talk to it with the Mac. Driver problems are not unique to the pc world, and I'd much rather have too many than none at all

Wifi is a great thing. Had the same wonderful experience over Christmas at my parents house. My father who always would string an ethernet cable across the living room, pissing off my mom, so he could watch TV and work at the same time. I kept tell them for a year to get AirPort. Finally when he got a Titanium at Christmas he went ahead and got an airport for the house too. Well, needless to say he fell in love, not to mention my mother was happy that the wires were gone. He even liked it so much he had me get him one for his office as well.

And now when I go to visit and take mine with me, it's great I can go anywhere in the house and use the internet, or for that matter in the hammock outside as well. Gotta love Wifi!
