| Don't they own Toast? I wouldn't mind a decent burner application in X.

| Toast is created by roxio, and no they do not own it. I believe they did buy out a smaller company when they were looking to integrate cd burning into the finder. If they bought roxio they'd get jam, toast, easy CD creator for the PC as well as many others. |

| I hope so... as this would be a purchase of strategic importance to Apple, for a couple of reasons... 1- Roxio makes the best solutions for CD/DVD burning for Windows. Owning the company, Apple could ensure that both the Mac and Windows programs keep feature parity (or even allow the Mac version to feature Mac only features) 2-Napster and Pressplay are Roxio holdings, and competitors to the iTunes Music Store. While neither of the underlying technologies of these services would benefit Apple, as the iTMS has superior backend and technology, Apple could further expand it's user base with bringing the iTMS to these users. The Register has speculated that the reasons for the acquisition would be to get products to serve as the basis of iLife for Windows. This seems unlikely, since most of iLife is written in Cocoa, and although there are no longer any cross platform Cocoa tools, Apple's engineers from the NeXT days are familiar enough with the technology to make porting these Cocoa apps to Windows easier than recreating them in another framework. Plus, Apple needs to keep iLife as a Mac only product, as it drives a good bit of the purchasing of new Macs.

| If this rumor will turn to be a fact, I hope that Apple will improve Roxio's products for both platforms (Macs and Wintels) instead of focusing in one platform only... ![]() ![]()

| Hey Urbansory, try searching for the model number on xlr8yourmac.com. I have a Sony CRX-175E, which is apparently "PC only". However, after the 10.2.6 update, i went to xlr8yourmac.com and got a hacked driver for it, and it works fine in iTunes, havent tried it in the finder. While it seems silly that apple doesnt support these drives that obviously work, there are always ways around these issues.
