Lite-On / Sawtooth Problem?

Powermac G4 350 Sawtooth 400something Ram OSX 10.2

Just bought a BusLink 40x12x48 IDE CDRW with the Lite-On mechanism (Manufactured April 2002). I read on xlr8yourmac that everyone could pop it in to replace their DVDRom without issue. However, when I put it in the OS seems to shut it down. I'm not sure if its got no power or the OS locks the tray, but whichever it is I can't get it to open.

I've tried messing with the jumpers and setting energy control drive sleep to never.

I did pop it in my PC and it works flawlessly, so it's not the drive. Any ideas?

You said xlr8yourmac.com readers said it worked flawlessly, but they probably weren't running Jaguar yet. Maybe you can try it with some OS's that they've tried it at (10.1.5 or earlier).
