| Lacie 500GB external hd won't work... I just bought an external 500gb Lacie hd, and it won't mount. It shows up in Disk Utility as LaCie Group SA, but shows it has 0 bytes. I also cant partition, and I get an error when I try to erase. Anyone have any ideas?

| Have you tried viewing it in Disk Utility? It's possible that it's not formatted.

| FireWire? USB 2.0? eSATA? What are the exact steps you're taking in trying to set the drive up -- from connecting it to formatting it to trying to mount it?

BTW. Use sudo su - to run fdisk. |

| It is a firewire 800 hd. In disk utility everything in First Aid is grayed out. Under erase I try to erase it and it says "The chosen file size is not valid for this filesystem". When I try to partition it says "device not configured".
