| burn DLDVD to external Lacie o.k. its my turn. have a LaCie d2 external firewire DL DVD burner. also have an internal SL DVD burner. I want to burn more than 4g of i"movie" to the external from iDVD. I have been told this is not possable unless the DL burner is internal. I have searched all over for some kind of patch, cracker or "something" that will alow me to access the DL burning that is accessable in iDVD5 for internal DL burners to go to the external. I have tried the "french" patch but it does not work in panther. (10.3.8). I have the "easter egg" to alow iDVD to default to external and it works for what it is supposed to. on that note the "easter egg" will alow me to change default only once and then I am stuck with it until I remove "easter egg" docs and reboot. but I digress.... I want to know if any "gurus" out there can help on this subject. its either that or I have to buy an internal DL DVD burner. that would be an expensive bummer....i mean burner. ![]() cheers&aloha matt |

| Try "Patchburn," easily found with a simple Google or versiontracker.com search.

| "it cant happen here"(fz) right off the patchburn web site. Q: Will PatchBurn give me write support for double layer (8.5 GB) media? A: PatchBurn will not give you double layer support. This is up to the burn engine inside Mac-OS X, PatchBurn has no influence on that. For double layer support please use Roxio Toast Titanium 6.0.7 or newer i.e.---aint gona happen here. M p.s. have RTT 6.1.1. the menue page sucks and only give you 1 start button and no options. iDVD theams are what I am aiming for. to do that you need to burn from (or at least creat disc img from) iDVD itself. and as stated you cant do 8+gig unless you have an internal DL DVD burner. it will not let you go 8+gig to an external. thats the kind of patch or cracker i am looking for....if it exists. nice try though! cheers&aloha, matt Last edited by matt w; May 20th, 2006 at 03:10 PM. |

| Some possible fixes - Update to 10.4.x (better support for DL burns) Update to Toast Titanium. 7.x (improved support for more drives, DL support improved) Update to iDVD 6.x, which has easy support to external burners. (part of iLife '06) Some, or all of these may be needed to do what you need.

| "theres no way out of here. once you come in your in for good" 10.4.x is known to be more buggy than 10.3.9(what I have and what is working fine for me as a sys...dont mess with whats running smoothly )TT 7 requires 10.4 for full function likewise iDVD6 which also needs QT 7 which also needs OS 10.4 for full function. iDVD5 can do it but it needs to see an internal DL DVD burner. hmmmm....no crackers or patches ......... well looks like I'm getting an internal DL DVD burner. thanx cheers&aloha, matt Quote:

| With that though in mind, I bought a Lite-On internal DVD-RW today, at wal-mart. Dual-Layer DVD+/-R/W everything, 16X DVD-R, but missing Lightscribe function (which I can do without). Not a mention of any Mac use, but took only 2 minutes to replace, and tried it out Installed in a first-gen G5 tower (1.6 GHz) to replace a failing drive. Absolutely works great, very fast burns. Imported an audio CD into itunes in just over a minute. Burned a DVD copy through Toast, 3.5GB, in about 5 minutes. And it will boot a Mac from a bootable disk. The OS reports it as 'un-supported' which should mean that iTunes won't use it (but, in fact, burns from iTunes), and also SHOULD mean that iDVD won't use it (and I did not try a burn from iDVD, but no errors when iDVD opened, so I cannot give you a firm OK with that, and I have all those software updates I mentioned) Works great for what I do (lots of CD/DVD copies for customer drive backups), and it's physically shorter than the drive I replaced, so easier to remove/install. Cost? - $49.95.
