DVD Player app: audio/visual sync problems

Hi! This site is great, and if you can help me, I will stop feeling bad because my computer i spend 2000$ on isnt working properly:P


I own a powerbook G4, 15 inch, 1.68 ghz
I am running os 10.4.


Here is the problem:
All of a sudden about two weeks ago, my dvd player started doing something odd. the video lagsabout .5 seconds behind the audio. it is out of sync.

This is not caused by a bad disk as i have tried many various disks, including ones that used to work fine, and now all have this problem.

also, this isnt caused by having not enough free ram, as i have quit all applications.


whats going on, and how do i fix this? you wouldnt think this is a large problem, but it pretty much ruins any movie i try to watch.

(something that might be of note: everyonce in a while, the audio on my computer gets stuck in a loop, repeating the past second of audio over and over, over lapping. this happens for about 5 seconds, then it goes back to normal. this isnt a problem of the dvd player though, as it happens with any type of audio my computer might be making)

Well I first would open Disk Utility and do a "Repair Permissions". Also I remember reading somewhere the current VLC beta plugin is playing havoc with some systems. Plus try to Reset PRAM to see if that helps. Good luck.
