ichat & camera

I want to talk and view using ichat. Can I do this with a friend who is running a PC? if so how? Hotmail messenger does not allow this. Is there another programme which will allow me to communicate?

I presume I can talk and view using two Mac computers, is this correct?

iChat to iChat works wonderfully.

I've had limited success with people using AIM. One thing I do notice is that after about 10 minutes or so, the video freezes- audio stays intact.

MSN messenger gave me horrible frame rates when I tried it last year. I think Skype is developing a video chat client for Mac.

Hope that helps.

J

likewise have only succeeded mac-pc using AIM, but I agree, it's pisspoor and grinds to a halt after a short while. nothing else has even remotely worked.

Talking AIM 5.9 works with iChat

I chat successfully with my parents in FL using iChat on my end (3.1.5, with OS X 10.4.7) and the AIM 5.9 client, a step or two short of AIM Triton, which doesn't work at all cross-platform...er, yet? No freezing, no stuttering, just impressive performance and reasonable resolution. I have a dual-G4 867MHz and an iSight, my parents have XP Home and a Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX. You can download AIM 5.9 here:

Haven't tried Skype video yet, but we're poised to, possibly today. Excited to see if the video window is resizable, as this is a problem with AIM 5.9, or possibly with my limited cable modem upload speed, not sure.

No need to wait for Skype to polish things, though - AIM 5.9 works! If you encounter technical issues, here's a great page that helps walk you through setup and troubleshooting:
