Display on KVM doesn't initialize

I have a unique situation. I have two G5's that sit there and record video. They share a keyboard and mouse via a KVM switch. It's connected via the VGA adapter to just a run-of-the-mill Sony display. When the computers reboot, the computer that's not selected on the KVM does not initialize it's video. So when I go back to it and try to use it... it never wakes up. The machine works and does it's job... but there's no display. Stranger yet, I can VNC into it and use it without a problem.

Is there a way I can re-initialize the monitor via VNC... or better yet, just have it always initialize even if the monitor technically isn't plugged in?

TIA!
