Is a MacMini the right way to upgrade?

I have a ageing 933MHz G4 Quicksilver that is running out of steam. Hard disc is getting full, cooling fan is noisy, and it might not work with the next level of Leopard upgrade.

So, is a MacMini the best way to upgrade?

I have all the peripherals I need (screen, keyboard etc.) and it seems to fit the bill. Any reason not to? Mostly I surf the net and manipulate photographs and simple tech drawings (not AutoCAD). My wife does some concert programmes, posters and brochures from time to time.

Just seen that the spec says "supports Apple 20 inch and 23 inch cinema displays". I still have a perfectly good Apple 17 inch Studio LCD screen that I intend to carry on using. Will this be OK?

The Studio Displays used the Mac-only ADC connector. The Mac Mini uses a standard DVI connector. To connect an ADC monitor, you'd need to buy an adapter. Apple sells one for $99. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...nplm=M8661LL/B

Ah! Thanks. I think that I have a connector that came in a box with either the Studio display or the G4 laptop. Have to search....

I am an extremely pleased Mini user. I bought mine when 1.66Ghz w/Superdrive was the top dog. Even w/standard 512MB of RAM, this thing can burn 8 dvds simultaneously while ripping a 9th, and doing anything else I choose to do at the same time. Depending on my needs, I have up to 9 external hard drives connected and working at any given time. It is just an incredible little machine. Next move for me will be to max out the RAM. I want to see just how far I can push my little baby.

Or, if your 933MHz G4 Quicksilver is still up to the task, just add an external hard drive. You can always switch that between machines
