Internal combo drive broken

My friend has a 733MHz Quicksilver G4 that has a broken internal combo drive. Does anyone know of a list of supported "combo" drives that could be used as a replacement? (and possibly where one might purchase such a drive)

Yes, I second looking at www.xlr8yourmac.com. He has a database there that covers what anybody has tried to use in their mac.

I'm not sure what price range your friend is looking at for a replacement drive, but www.esbuy.com usually has the pioneer dvr-107's (8x dvd burner) for 109.49 (as of today).

That is a very good price on a drive that can burn both +/- dvd standards, cd's, and if he is running 10.3.3 it has native support for the drive. If he isn't running 10.3.3, lacie has a set of custom drivers that add support (look on versiontracker or lacie's website).

go to www.pricewatch.com and look up that drive. Most companies have that drive for under $105 some with free shipping.
One question though...Why has this drive come down in price so quickly?

Pioneer is the drive Apple uses. If your friend is using OS 9 or older systems, get the Pioneer 105/A05. If using OS X, get the 106/A06, Panther 107/A07. These drives are completely compatible with all Apple iApps.

Check http://www.dealmac.com for prices;
