Unhappy Backup Exec and OS 10.4.4 Server

Ok i am stumped...

Here is the setup:

1 Windows 2003 SBS Server running Symantec backup Exec 10D
2 Windows 2003 Servers running the Backup Exec Remote agent
1 XServe running 10.4.4 with the MAC agent for Backup Exec

Here is the problem:

The Backup Exec software is able to backup all files on the Windows servers (Both remote and local) but not the XServe. During setup of the backup job I am able to browse all files on the XServe and select which ones I would like to backup. However, when i run the backup job it fales stating that the agent is either not running or not the correct version. I then went in to test the credentials for the account used to backup the XServe and it passes for the root share and does not attempt to check the credentials on the actual files. When I called Symantec the told me that I had the correct version of the MAC Agent installed and that it will automatically run after installation of the MAC Agent.

Here are some troubleshooting steps already attempted:
1. Reinstall the Backup Exec MAC Agent
2. Install older Backup Exec MAC Agents
3. Created an admin account named Backup Administrator on the XServe and used that account as the acount for Backup Exec to backup the XServe
4. Wasted $89.00 by calling Symantec for support
5. Setup a test environment with 1 Windows 2003 SBS Server and 1 10.4 MAC Server and received the same error

Any help will by greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

I've had this exact problem for a very long time and for some reason the problem solved itself when I swithched my logon account to a domain wide admin account (win2k AD).

Have you started the mac agent in debug mode?
Maybe you'll see something in the logs.

I also remember seeing an article at symantec about BE 10d using the NDMP port (10000) and one should make sure that particular port isn't used by another application. This can be done by looking for the NDMP entry in the services file.

Hope you'll find some luck!

Cool Problem solved

Trilithon,
Thank for your reply. I did not have any luck when using the domain admin account. I did however get the backup job to work when I did not use any accounts for the MAC server under the credientials for the backup job. I also removed the password from the agent.cfg file on the MAC Server.

I am not sure why this worked as according to Symantec as long as the passwords are the same the backup job should work (Supposedly the MAC agent ignores the username as you can only enter a password during the MAC agent install). Either way it has worked for the past 2 nights and I appreciate yours input on this issue.
