new member with Jaguar questions

Hi,

I'm brand new to these boards and would like to say I think this place is an awesome resource for Mac enthusiast. With that said, I have a couple of questions about Jaguar perhaps someone might be able to answer.

I just got a new 17" iMac and it came with a Jaguar upgrade (way cool), so I installed it but have run into some curious issues already.

For starters, RTCWolfenstein retail wont install! The installer just crashes. Everything else I attempted to installed did just fine.

Second, I have my computer set to let the display sleep after said amount of time. After letting my computer idle for several hours, I came back to it, woke the display with the mouse and my iMac froze. What happened exactly is that the screen flashed, displayed the desktop then went haywire and displayed a distorted image (like a tv channel out of tune).

Third, sometimes the background pictures for no apparent reason tile themselves, like after waking up the display or rebooting. I have to reselect the background image to make it return to normal.

Fourth, sometimes the background picture becomes all jagged and pixilated like it's being zoomed but it isn't.

Fifth, the DVD player has crashed several times on various DVDs. Something 10.1.5 never does on my other Macs.

Sixth, I've noticed some of the widgets in Mozilla display funny. No big deal, just kind of annoying.

Please, don't get me wrong, I'm loving Jaguar but these several issues have me concerned. Has anyone else had a chance to use Jaguar extensively and run into any abnormalities like the ones listed above?

With that said, Jaguar boots faster, runs faster, looks better and feels more responsive. Maybe all that's needed is a 10.2.1 upgrade?

My biggest concern is that my system has frozen completely already. Something that's never happened before in all the time I've been running OS X.

Smile welcome to the boards!

it seems to me that Jaguar isn't *really* a finished product. I think that all bugs should be fixed in 10.2.1, which *should* come out not long after 8/24

Thanks for the welcome xaqintosh!

As for Jaguar not being finished!

I'd have to say though, that's kind of the overall feeling I'm getting from it so far. As long as it doesn't freeze ever again, I'll be ok!

Never crashed on me, unless I did something really, really bad, like testing my own backup script and filling the System HD instead of the FireWire HD (it wasn't mounted, so the script just added a new directory in /Volumes..., my bad).

I can't really say about the software you're using, as I don't use it, but I've found some incompatibilities, too. For example OmniDictionary wouldn't connect to any dict-servers. OmniGroup released a new version, now it's working. Proteus has its problems, too. But I guess there'll be a round of .x updates for many share- and freeware applications and the biggies, too, as soon as the incompatibilities are found.

And yes, of course Apple will also have to correct some bugs in 10.2.x.

If the game installer doesn't work, you could maybe just copy the installed app from another computer you have it installed on. Chances are it would run just fine.
