toast will become famous soon enough
Here are some remarks to your observations :

Quote:
However, I haven't set the default mail settings and when I click on an email address over the internet, for example, Apple Mail pops up.
Why don't you just take a deep breath and get those mail settings modified ? Total of 4 clicks to make the change.

Also, I'm quite sick of the Apple drawers being on the right hand side. Whomever decided to do this was a complete dufus.
You can move the drawer to the left if you can't stand it. This makes nobody a dufus, whatever this is.

Why is it that I can call up adresses in iCal or Apple Mail but can't edit them without opening the Address book?
Because the role of the Address Book is to modify the addresses while the role of the Address Book 'lite' you have in iCal and Mail is just for retrieving addresses. It's UNIX philosophy that one program is assigned to one task. If you want multitask programs visit www.microsoft.com .

I'd really like to know why Microsoft can create an application that works flawlessly on OSX but Apple's own software is sluggish and has UI bugs?
Certainly because Apple software is FREE while Microsoft pays people with the money you give them.

On a positive note, I have to say Apple's best little application would be Quicktime without a doubt. I think it's evolved into a nice little performance monkey. I think Apple really needs a better focus on its other iApps so they can really compete with other software.
I'd like to add iTunes to the list, which is a very good product too indeed. I'd also like to add iChat, even though I'd be more satisfied if it supported MSN accounts. Finally, I'd like to add Mail, you won't agree though.

Your comments on iCal are somehow right, but most of your points on the rest of the iApps do not find much agreement in my opinion. Mail, Address Book, iTunes, iChat are part of my Dock, and I'm very happy with them. Maybe this thread will show I'm one of the few who are satisfied with those iApps. I'm quite sure it'll show the opposite, esp. about iTunes !

My two cents

I totally agree with iTunes. Nothing comes close to it. QT has been the long standing champion.

I have never really used iChat before so I cannot comment.

What I like most... the entire OS X GUI. It is so sweet it is attracting ants to the keyboard and mice... LOL.

Really? I was just having a conversation with several friends today about how much we all seem to enjoy Mail.app. In my experience, it comes closer to doing everything correctly than any other MUA.

From what I've seen, drawers open on the side of the window which has space available onscreen. You want drawers on the left, drag your windows to the right.

Yep, iCal's pretty bad. So's iPhoto. In fact, every iApp has been fairly lame upon first release. But they've also all gotten drastically better within a rev or two, frequently surpassing all other options.

Considering that 99% of all navigation aids are located on the left hand side of the screen somewhere, this move is more than annoying.
actually, 99% of all apple navigation aids are located on the right. they always have been. this was one of the ways that m$ supposedly differentiated themselves from apple's older gui - moving everything from the right to the left. The right is actually much more intuitive for right handed paople and those who drive on the right side of the road. unless you have spent years using m$ products and have it ingrained in your head that is where they "should" be.
