Suddenly Unable to Burn Dvd-r's Using Toast 5.1

Suddenly today I'm unable to burn DVD-R's using Toast 5.1.

I trashed the toast prefs file, same thing happens. Insert DVD, toast automatically opens. Create a new DVD, and hit record. Toast "unexpedly quits" and then opens again (because a DVD is in the drive).

fsck-ing doesn't find a problem and Disk Utility only finds this:

We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util. New permissions are 33261

What could be happening? I've been doing this for years.
