Recovered files won't open

Hi everybody, I have a huge problem. I accidentally erased the HD on my Imac G5. I had work folders and files there. I recovered most of those with Data Rescue 2 but they won't open. I tried BBEdit, Canopener, nothing worked. Is there anything that can be done? Thanx

You can try a professional data recovery service like http://drivesavers.com

There's no guarantee that any recovered file will be usable -- it's best to use the old rule of thumb and say that when files are deleted, they're gone. There is no sure-fire way to get your data back -- sometimes you'll be able to get it back, sometimes you won't. Sometimes it'll appear to have been recovered, but will be unusable, as in your case.

What kinds of files and folders are they? If you're recovering Word documents and trying to open them with Canopener, that could be one problem -- once the files are recovered, try opening them with the original application that created them.

They're mostly QuarkXpress 6 files and TIFF or PICT, some PDF and JPEG files. I tried first with the original app. but it looks like something is missing so they won't open. I thought I could find some kind of utility that would allow me to fix the problem, apprently there's none. Maybe somebody should write such a sofrtware, they'd make good money.
Thanks for the reply.
