Ridiculous amounts of permissions problems...

i'm having a ridiculous amount of permissions being repaired every time.

how about this for a first time repair (i've not repaired in about 2 weeks):

actually i can't upload it, i can't even just paste the text as the plain text file is 9mb.

after all those permissions have been repaired, i run it again. i get this: (bear in mind that this is the 2nd or third pass, the first one was 20 times longer than this, and was a 9mb plain text file)

.... any suggestions? this isn't right, and i'm starting to notice that rarely now does an application quit successfully, it always quits, then i get faced with the "the application [ ] crashed, what would you like to do...?" message

Your post indicates no problem. Notice that nearly every line begins with "We are using special permissions...." All that has happened is that you have been notified that Apple uses those particular permission settings for those particular files.

yes yes yes....

however, it's only recently that i get a shitload of permissions being fixed, and after that, it's still as above. before, it would fix, say 20 problems, and use special permissions for, say, 5.

it just screams of something not as clean as it should be... it sounds wrong.

is there no way i can sort this out? i know it's nothing detrimental, but i don't want it there, i want it clean!

Hmmm... did you recently install anything of significance? A new application or something?

Mine warns of DVD Player, like yours, and all the Widgets, and Dock, and php... in fact, it's pretty much an exact duplicate of the warnings I get. I can remember this list getting longer and longer through the incremental updates (10.4.1 .. 10.4.5), and most of them pertain to securing holes or vulnerabilities (like the Widget warnings).

If that's the complete list you get when you repair permissions, then all should be well.

The applications crashing certainly doesn't sound right. You may want to first try booting from the Mac OS X Install CD/DVD and run a "Repair Disk" to see if there's anything wrong with the drive. In addition, I would also suggest reinstalling the 10.4.5 Combo Updater -- some people report this helping sometimes.

I don't believe that the crashing and the permissions would be related, but they very well may be.
