Good luck dude. I've done that many a time myself. I now do backups. Even if it is just making a duplicate copy on the same disk.

There are some utilities that claim to be able to recover files. I have one that can recover lost images when my camera trashs the microdrive but its pretty specialized.

The way to recover deleted files is to restore them from the backup that you regularly keep.

Barring that (which shouldn't be, since backups are NOT an option -- they are a requirement for any computer user that stores data of any value on their computer), you can try software such as Data Rescue II (easily found with a simple search on versiontracker.com). If that doesn't work, then professional data recovery is also an option -- something like www.drivesavers.com should do the trick. Be aware, though, that professional data recovery is not cheap: a few hundred dollars at the minimum... it all depends on how much that data is worth to you.

If you do intend to do the data recovery route, it is imperative that you cease using the computer immediately. Every second that you use the computer, the chances of the old data becoming overwritten with new data and becoming impossible to recover increase.
