Unhappy Mac Mini - Ichat - Microphone Problems

Mac Mini Intel Core Solo using ichat - OSX 10.4.5 - Used 2 different Mic Setups - Griffin Lapel Mic with Griffin imic (USB) and Logitech USB Mic. Trying to ichat Emac (OS 10.4.5) - Previous system Emac to Emac worked fine. Father purchased Mini - unable to ichat with audio. Lots of "Noise" voice is garbled. Changed USB ports/unplugged Printer/no other devices connected. Still not working. His input level has been set to low and the Mic input shows constant movement even when no talking or other background noise. Seems to be hardware issue - Call in to Apple but, we need to have them on phone and try to ichat each other then go through other steps.

Question is: Any other similar (Noise) related questions with this type of set up?

Thanks for your help.

it sound as if you mics may be bad. I know because I had a Power Mac G3 with a USB card in it and running 10.4.3. My old Logitech head set that came with the PS2's game worked just fine on it. but when I got my 2x450Mhz Power Mac G4 system and had the same setup as before just more ram it. it would not work. Got a new USB only mic and guess what it worked.

Are you haveing any other mass ups with other USB stuff like printers not working or Hard drives not monting? if so it may be that USB ports on the mac mini you got is bad. I know my coworker got one the first MacBook Pros and the wireless would not work. and when she called apple about apple replaceed her MacBook for free. They said that there haveing some hardware stuff to work out on the new Intel Mac. Thats just what happens when you have to play on the bleding edge of Tech. That is whay I will not get a new Intell mac till later this year or first part of next.
