| font to font I am getting a font sent to me via email from the guy who is subcontracting me for design work. i am OSX2.8 i have to solve this today! his font is coming and my computer cannot read it- thinks it is a Excel file. I think this might be resource fork issues but I have no idea what to do. I must solve this today as I said and cannot spend money. we are using the same version of InDesign for the design itself- but no matter how the fonts come from him to me they are stripped of an extension. is there any quick fix? or do I need to get someone to put them on a CD for me? is this an email problem? we tried FTP also- didn't work. If you can help- please be explanatory- I have no idea really what the resource fork really does and how to alter.... |

| Since you have given no information specific to the attached file, I can only make a stab at your problem. First, drag the attached file to /Library/Fonts/. If this does not work, then click on the file. From the Finder's menu bar, select File>Get Info or [Apple]-[i]. From the Opens with popup menu, select Font Book (assuming that Font Book shipped with MacOS X 10.2.8). Since your OS is two versions ago, I don't remember what was included. If Font Book is not available, do a Get Info on another font. Note the opening application and use that for your attached file. |

| Have the person sending you the font create an archive of the font (.zip, .sit, whatever). That way, when you uncompress the font on your side, it should retain the resource fork and appear to your system as a font file.
