Cool won't recognize the bass tube after reinstall

i had to do a complete erase and reinstall recently. before that a buddy gave me the harman/kardon bass tube that came with the G4's pro speaker set. when i connected it via usb it worked immmediately. since the reinstall it doesn't seem to be working though the light is on.
i've checked the power supply, zapped the pram, repaired permissions, power down and unplugged everything...
now what?
