Quicktime launches but won't show media from Safari/Firefox

Hello,
I'm having trouble watching media from internet sites. I've tried using both Firefox and Safari and get the same problem.
Recently I was watching a quicktime movie in my browser window, and selected the option to launch in a seperate quicktime window (and i believe I made this default).
Now, whenever I click a link for a movie in a browser associated with quicktime (which are all my media files), quicktime launches (giving my mouse a 'busy' wheel for about 10sec), then opens no movie and my internet broswer window refreshes. I get this problem everytime I try to view a media file in Firefox and Safari.
I have a Dual 2.7ghz PowerPC G5 running the latest version of OSX 10.4 and a registered version of the latest release of Quicktime.
Is there a way to reset this setting within Quicktime? Because I can't find anywhere where I can change this back to displaying the media file in the broswer (or displaying it at all!)
Thanks in advance for your help, let me know if I can make this clearer or if you need more information.

Stephen

MisterMe will become famous soon enough
Launch System Preferences.

Click the QuickTime preferences pane.

Click the Advanced tab.

Click the MIME Settings... button.

If you want QuickTime to take care of all media, make sure that all checkboxes are checked.

Otherwise, click to rotate the media category triangles to select the specific media types that you want QuickTime to handle.

Report back on what happens.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
My problem is not that I don't want Quicktime to handle these file types - I do want Quicktime to handle them, but it's that quicktime launches itself and will not play the media, rather than the default setting where it would play embedded in the browser window. I want it to go back to this default browser embedded setting instead of launching seperate QT windows.
Thanks!
