Sound files crashing my Mac!

I hope I can find an answer here! My Mac has decided that it no longer has to play any of my mp3s. iTunes will launch, but crashes every time I try to play any song. When I try and play any mp3 file in Preview, it quits as well. *No* sound files will play at all (system sounds, AIFF, .wav, mp3, etc...) Quicktime won't even start up and crashes Safari on any page or link that contains it.

I have already trashed the prefs, zapped the PRAM, reset the NVRAM, run fsck in single-user mode, opened in safe boot, trashed the receipts, reinstalled both iTunes and Quicktime all to no avail. I've run Disk Utility and repaired permissions and the disk, although when I then ran Disk Warrior to re-graph my drive it said it was too damaged. I ran Disk Utility again, but it said the disk was fine. However, I can not boot from my 10.4 disk, nor will it let me run installer. I can't boot from my optical drive at all, no matter if I hold down C or Option. I've tried booting from my 10.4.3 DVD, my Hardware Test CD, my Norton CD... all nada.

I had just installed the software updates for 10.4.6 & Quicktime 7.11. Now, when I boot from my backup drive (external) which has 10.2.8 and iTunes 4.7, everything runs fine.

UPDATE: It's official: I *CANNOT* run the installer from my 10.4.3 DVD, even when I've booted from my backup drive (10.2.8) I tried to update my backup, but everytime I try, it boots me back into my Mac HD. I also tried to burn the Discwarrior 3.0.3 CD updater, but that errored out as well. I've been reading in multiple sites/forums about issues with the QT update, but mine seems to be the most extreme. Thanks Apple!

UPDATE 2: Well, I should've tried this first...

I reinstalled 10.4.6 using the combo updater, and now all seems to be working fine again. I'm still not reinstalling QT 7, though...
