'To turn on IR reception in system preferences is missing'

My remote for my iMac is not working. I originally thought it neeeded a new battery but that was not it. I had a power outage the other night and since then have been noticing the problem.

The apple support says;

'To turn on IR reception:
Open System Preferences and click Security.
Deselect "Disable remote control infrared receiver.'

When I go to system preferences and then security, the option to 'disable remote control infrared receiver' does not show up.

Yesterday I restarted and the option came back, this morning after turning my computer on it wasn't there again. Any idea how to resolve this problem for good?

Thank you

Dan

Sounds like the power outage might have damaged something. A little. I'd try restarting like you did before for now. And then maybe you'll have to take it in.

Similar But also Isight

I have been having same problem.
Box is missing from Security.
Have not seen it since remote stooped working.

Also at the same time My isight camera has been acting odd. When ever I open IChat or Photo Booth it says camera is in use by another application but none are open. Only after a restart and a quick start of Photo Booth does it work.

I have Tried to repair remote with Imac using instructions from apple.
Press both Menu and Next at same time for 5 sec wait for lock to show on screen.

I have zapped Pram and did safe mode start.

Have you found out what it was yet?
