Question How can I Install Mac OS 9 on an Intel iMac? Is it possible?

Hi,

I have an Intel iMac 2Ghz and Im enjoying that a lot, because I'm a swicher... lol. Ok anyway, my friend gave me a CD of the Installation of Mac OS 9, the classic Operational System for Mac. I was wondering if it is possible to install this operational system on my Mac, but maybe on the same partition as of my Mac OS X (if not, it is OK), and how to do that, so I can have 2 OS on my Macintosh.

The reason that I want to do this, is because I have some games that don't work on Mac OS X, because they are Applications (Classic)...

Is it possible? How? What should I do step-by-step... I already have the CD. yupiii...

Thanks, I hope to find a solution by Installing this OS, and I hope this works.
Thanks for MacOSX.com, they are a great Mac Support Site,

Gab.

You were on the right track with your last thread about SheepShaver. Mac OS 9 is a PPC OS, so you'll need an emulator to run it on an Intel machine.

Sorry for being so stupid, but how do I do that and run that on my Mac OS X so I can play Classic applications on my Mac OS X? So that means it is not possible to install an aditional operational system on my Intel Mac?

On my PC, I can have Windows Xp and WIndows 98 both installed on my computer...
How do I do the emulation... if you dont know... its ok... you already helped a lot.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help...

To run SheepShaver, I need to use the Mac OS 9 Installation CD, right? Because OS 9 is not pre-installed on SheepShaver...

Right, you'll need the OS 9 CD for SheepShaver. (I think 7.5 or 8 would work, too.)

You can install more than one OS on your Intel Mac, but not Mac OS 9. Mac OS 9 is a PPC-only OS, so you can't install it on Intel hardware. Similarly, on PPC Macs, you can install Mac OS 9, but not Windows or other Intel-only OSes.

As for how to use SheepShaver, as I mentioned before, I've wrestled it with it at length and gotten no usable results. So I can't really help you there. You might want to check out http://www.emaculation.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=20 (although most users there are not running SheepShaver on OS X, it's still a good resource).

Thank you Mikuro, it was really helpful. Even if you cant help me on using SheepShaver, I expected to have at least a good site to check out (which you gave me, by the way. :P) by the way, you are right... SheepShaver is a pain to use....

SheepShaver works with System 7 all the way up to Mac OS 9.2.2.
