wireless connection

I have a PowerbookG4 running Mac OS 10.4.6. I am trying to connect to a wireless network in a condo in Vail, Colorado. There is a DSL gateway box near the phone in the condo - service provided by QWest. There is a password associated to the network. I normally have no trouble connecting to wireless networks without passwords (as in the Vail library, where I am now) using Airport. When I initially log in to my Mac in the condo, the cone shaped icon at the top shows no signal. When I click on it and select LA303 (the condo number is 303) I am prompted for the password, and after entering it the cone shaped icon indicates full signal, and shows me as connected to LA303. After selecting internet connect and clicking on firefox, I get a "www.google.com" cannot be found error message, indicating I am not connected afterall. Are there some extra steps I need to take to connect to a password protected network? (QWest thinks the problem is my Mac, not their signal). Thanks!

Jim

Firstly, you shouldn't need to run Internet Connect after connecting to the Airport network.

What you need to do is connect as you have been doing, then after entering the password go into System Preferences -> Network and check the settings for the Airport connection. Depending on the provider, you may need to specify some settings here.
