How do you use Automator and Sherlock?

Hi,

Mac OS X comes with two softwares called Automator and Sherlock that I dont know yet how to use them. I know Automator can make multiple tarks for you so you dont have to do them for yourself. But how to use it? How do you set the automator do make tasks for you at the time you want and whatever you tell him to do? And what is Sherlock and what does it do? Thanks for the help,

Sherlock is a relict .... here some history about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_%28software%29 so I'd say ... use it as it is but it's not really anything that was supposed to work with automator.
