Welcome!

what kind of machine? what version of OS X?

Do you have an iSight camera or a different camera connected?

Modem or network access to the web? Firewall enabled? Or behind a router?

Do you have two macs on the same network via which you can test iChat using Bonjour?

Sorry, but specific questions and answers yield better results.

It is an emac running OS X 10.4.?. I do not have an iSight camera or any camera hooked up to it. It is connected via a dsl modem. I have a wireless router, but this computer is hooked up directly. Firewall is not enabled. I do not have two macs to test using Bonjour.

The computer locking up first happened with AIM, I uninstalled and reinstalled AIM and got the same results. I then starting using the iChat and got the same results.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Yikes..

Ok - I would try this:

Using Disk Uitilities, repair your permissions and verify your boot disk.

Does iChat ever work or does it start working..then after a bit time - lock up?

It starts working, then after a few minutes locks up the computer.

I did the repair permissions and verified the boot disk. I also downloaded onyx and ran the maintenance and cleaning scripts. I then rebooted and iChat froze up again. I appreciate the help, any more ideas?
