Red face Burning dvd-r

Hallo,

I'm a bit of a mac-novice and am in great need of help!!! The marriage between mr. mac and I hasn't been going too well lately

I have a powerbook G4 running os x...I'm trying to burn some .avi files that I downloaded to a blank dvd-r. I don't want to make a fancy DVD, I just want to copy the files for a friend and copy some to store off my HD.

When I insert the blank dvd-r, I get the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"...strange...I was expecting to simply be able to drag and drop my .avi files to the blank dvd icon on my desktop and then hit "burn" (the way you would burn a CD).

Is it not as simple as this? seems this is not the case! I read somewhere that perhaps it's a bad bunch of dvd-rs (they are no-name ones, but does that make a difference?)

Please help!

Does you PowerBook support DVD-R? To see if it does click the upper left hand corner Blue Apple and select "About this Mac". Once the screen pops up, click the button for "More Info...". This will open an application called System Profiler. In System Profiler highlight "Disk Burning", this will tell you what you can burn.

Thanks for this - I checked and yes, my mac supports DVD +R... I guess I'll try a "branded" DVD +R and see if it reads that!

Hm... That'd be strange. All SuperDrives on Mac have supported DVD-R from the beginning. DVD+R was handled like a stepchild instead.
