stuffit expander on OSX just "prepares" forever

Dear Folks,

I have a MacBookPro with 10.4. I have downloaded StuffIt standard - with Expander - and when I try to drop bin and hqx on it (have tried Windows Media Player), I get a window that says "preparing" which just goes on forever. No sign of action, no error messages, no forced quit, just nothing. Have tried redownloading StuffIt files _and_ two versions of WMP (both bin and hqx format) in case of corruption or suchlike but same again.

I've never had such a problem before. Freezes and error messages I can do something with but an "infinite prepare" has me stumped. Oh yes, and I also had a scout through the menus and prefs to see if anything obvious needed changing but couldn't find anything that sounded relevant ...

Any ideas?

Edmund

Sigh... I have the exact same problem. My iMac is brand new, and there's no reason why it should 'prepare' forever.

Surely some more people have had this problem?

Sounds like you both are running on MacIntel systems. There's a beta release of Stuffit Expander as a Universal Binary, available here:

http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/universalbeta.html

Give that a shot. If no luck, do a Spotlight search for com.stuffit.Expander.plist and trash it, try again.

btw...it's just pronounced "Randy". The 3 is silent. For no good reason.
