XHTML notepad??

at university i've been asked to make a small (XHTML) website and told not to use dreamweaver, so i d/l (taco html editer) and it works fine for what i want is just like notepad but you can save as an html file witch is fine.,.,.but know my task it to create an CSS for the site so i'm looking for if there are any good sites/programs on html/css edit:

what i want to know is:

is there any more.,.,..(to play around with)

i've not tryed (BBedit)

simple one like that....(none dreamweaver clones)
