| Need to back-up before upgrading? I'm currently running OS 10.3.x on my G5. Have OS 10.4 on CD and would like to upgrade my OS to the latest version of OS 10.4 Is it essential to back-up all my data, applications etc before doing so? Presumably my preferences, Safari bookmarks etc will not be deleted when upgrading? Thanks for any advice. Nick

| It is essential to *ALWAYS* have a current backup of everything you do not wish to lose. It's not only that a system upgrade could hose your system. There are other things that can happen. Lightning strikes, harddrives die: You definitely _want_ to have a backup. Always.

| Have a back up, always recommended. But upgrading shouldn't normally erase your settings or files unless you "wipe and install" OS X.
