Always open Preview on external display?

Hello all,

I have a MacBook Pro hooked up to an external display that's rotated by 90 degrees (so 1024x1280 instead of 1280x1024) for easy viewing of A4 documents (I read a lot of journal articles). Whenever I open a PDF with Preview, it always opens on the laptop display. Is there a way to change this behaviour so that it always opens them on the external display, preferably occupying all of the screen?

Thanks in advance,
Mike Peel
