Poor performance G4 Laptop

My G4 laptop with 1Gb ram , 1.67Ghz processor has been getting slower and slower I have had it for about a year. Please help! It's running osx 10.4.7 It is especially slow running Word

Have you trried updating to 10.4.8? There are a number of security issues and bug fixes that it takes care of, not to mention all ofthe other necessary security updates you might need. Also, make sure you have ample hard drive space otherwise you'll experience slowdowns when it needs to access the hard drive for virtual memory. Increasing the amount of RAM in your PowerBook will also help.
