Fix double images

Is there any application which can fix double images in pictures? I have some pictures which I took of illuminated objects at night, but moved the camera and the result was that the object look as if they were doubled.

If you are very skilled, you might be able to tidy up the image a bit in PhotoShop with careful and thoughtful application of subtraction layers. However, there is no automated nor completely effective way to do it.

I recommend you invest your money in a tripod instead.

I was afraid of that. I tried making a mask with transparent areas (with Toyviewer) and subtracting it from the original (with Gimp), but it did not work very well.
