| Are PowerPC updates also for G5 desktops? A friend of mine has a G5 and gets notifications of PowerPC updates, but doesn't select them because he thinks that it does not apply to his G5 QuickSilver desktop. I'm guessing that it does apply. Otherwise, he would not get the notification of the update. Please advise. |

| Wow. 1.) The "quicksilver" desktops were G4s, not G5s. 2.) The PowerPC line of processors in Macs started with "G1" (PPC 601) and through "G2" (603/604) went to G3 (750 and up), G4 (74xx) and G5 (97x). They're all PowerPCs. 3.) They do apply and he should install them.

| yeah the G supposedly refers to the generation of PowerPC processor, so G5 is the 5th Generation PowerPC processor in the Mac.
