Terible internet speed with Tiger

I recently upgraded to Tiger and I have been experiencing problems with internet speed, specifically when I use Azureus.

Firstly, not knowing much about computers, I put the tiger dvd into the drive and followed a few instructions to upgrade. Therefore, |I did not back up, or format or anything of the the like.

I have tried to change settings for my internet but it doesnt seem to work. The apple guys have recommended that I buy a new modem with ethernet capabilities, which I would be happy to do, but I am not convinced that this is the problem,as I had no worries at all with Panther.

Is it too late to re install tiger, and try a fresh start? What is the best way to do that?. I also dont have the original disks that came with my computer.

I have a dual 2.0 g5 and i am using a dlink adsl 200 modem.

Any help at all would be better than where \i am at now. Thanks guys.

Usually after an upgrade its best to run Disk Utility to run a Repair Disk and then a Repair Permissions. The latter I run twice to make sure it fixed the permissions on the first go.

The other option you could try is to disable IPv6 in System Preferences-->Network. When you select your interface and look in the TCP/IP section, there should be a button at the bottom to configure the IPv6 settings. Change it from Automatically to Disabled. Also, make sure that you have your Ethernet link speed set to Automatic.

Hopefully some of these tips will help improve network speed.
