Finder memory not holding

I have a Quicksilver 733 running OS X 10.4.9 from the PowerMac Combo update.

Had a problem with the printer getting info from the computer, but reinstalled JUST the Xerox drivers from the original OS X Tiger discs and it is solved.

BUT ... I thought the following problem was due to problems with my hard drive, which isn't the case since I repaired the disk problem and it's working fine now.

So, I'm feeling this may be another problem with the the Tiger update I installed.

I don't know how else to describe my problem ... so here goes the best way I can think of ...

I have my folders and windows set up as lists, but when I open a folder in a window, the list is gone and the icons are scattered all over the window. I can go to View and reset the list in the window, but the next time, it's back to the scattered mess. This never happened before I installed the Combo update at all ... and doesn't happen when the main window shows what's on the drive or the external hard drive, only with the windows I get when opening folders.

Also, when I print anything from InDesign, the printer box doesn't hold the settings from the prior page printed. It always did that before ... I don't know if this is in the same category as the problem above, but thought it might be since it's a situation where a prior setting must be reset and does not remain in the system as it did before.

Sounds like you're have a preference issue. To check for this create a new account in System Preferences. Log out and log back in as this new user. IF the problems go away than the issue is limited to your User folder.

To troubleshoot this:
Try deleting your printer from the printer list. Then navigate to
Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences.

Delete anything that says com.apple.print (you will have to reset up your printers)

Delete com.apple.finder.plist (for the folder issue you're having)

Restart your machine

If the problem doesn't go away, you can check your other preferences by opening Terminal (be careful you can do damage logged in a sudo) which is in your Utilities folder. type in

sudo plutil /Library/Preferences/*.plist

This will check your Preferences to see if they're all ok (may not necessarily find issue)

Barring that, download Yasu. This little app will clear your print and font cache as well as repair your permissions. Hope this helps!
