Lacie DVD Dual Layer Drive/Writer

Lacie drive recognized by Mac/Toast/Popcorn software.

But doesn't recognize writable dvd/cd media nor commercially manufactured discs.

I was told the problem might be firewire connection and that firmware updates exist for firewire connections, but I have to determine what firewire controller Lacie uses.

I cannot find this information.

Please help.
