MacBook Pro running slow...

Hi guys,

I've noticed that recently, over the past few weeks, my MacBook Pro has been getting quite slow at doing most things! I use Logic Pro a lot and that has started becoming very slow also!

I have recently installed some new plugins and virtual instruments for logic but I can't see that they would slow my machine down as they're not running 24/7, only when I use them in Logic.

Would there be any reason for this lack of speed and is there anything I can do to speed it up again, like it was when I first got it in August?

15" MacBook Pro 2GHz Intel Core Duo
1GB RAM
OS X 10.4.9

Thanks guys!

Well we can try to help. Try these steps to see if they help.

1) First lets see what is eating away processor cycles. Navigate to /Applications/Utilties/Activity Monitor and see what is eating the processor up and delete it. If nothing is looking like it is eating processor cycle, move onto step two.

2) Download a maintenance program to clear out cache & swap files in you Mac. Here IMHO are a couple of good programs: Yasu or Onyx. Either of these programs will help keep your Mac running in tip top shape.

If neither of these things help you please report back. Good Luck.

OnyX is good for cleaning the system.
How much empty space do you have? If it's less than 10 % of your hard drive, that causes usually slowness and other issues. Ideally you should have at least 15 % of free space.

Thanks guys, thats a big help! I'll get on the case with OnyX tomorrow!

Giaguara, it could have something to do with the amount of free space on my HD actually. I've got a 80GB drive and only 4.19GB available at present. I've been meaning to move loads of samples over to my external drive for months but kept putting it off... I'll get that sorted too and hopefully my system will be bakc to running smoothly again!

Thanks for your help! Any other suggestions would be great!
