Tiger, Classic, OS9.2.2 Startup problem Brief Summary of parts: I am in the middle of a format/reinstall of OSX10.4. I have OSX running perfectly but ran into problems with Classic. I read on one of the forums some time ago that you could drag the OS9 folder from one computer to the other and classic would run. It does. The problem that I am having is that I need to install printer drivers in OS9 so they work in my classic apps, for some reason chooser in Classic does squat. I have to be in OS9 for it to configure and work properly. I went to System Prefs and chose the OS9 startup volume. Restarted. I got the disk with the blinking question mark. So I am guessing that dragging the folder from one Mac to the other will allow classic to run, I must be missing something when it comes to running OS9 solo. I do not have an OS9.2.2 disk. I have an OS9.0 disk but Tiger wants nothing to do with it because of some compatibiliy issue. I have already installed everything I need outside of the printer drivers in OS9. I need to get into OS9 one time. After that I would not need to get in there again. I would hate to have to install fresh OS9, upgrade to 9.2.2, install OSX, then install all of my software. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

10.4's classic needs minimum 9.1. So 9.0 discs won't do since it can't be installed.

Yeah, I just tried it, all it did was unlink my system9 folder. I pulled a fresh copy off of the other computer and classic is running again, but I cant boot to OS9. I have to figure out how to boot OS9 so I can install drivers. Is there a way to install print drivers in classic that my classic apps will recognize? I know I can go to chooser in classic and install the drivers, but I have had mixed results with doing it. The sure bet for me has always been installing the drivers in OS9. Thanks

Which Mac is it? If it was manufactured after Jan 2003 it will not be able to boot to OS 9.

| Installing the OS 9 drivers is usually not needed with 10.4 and later. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h.../en/mh660.html Try printing from one of your OS 9 apps without installing the drivers. If you have the printer added in OS X, you should be able to print from your old Classic apps, too. This does assume that your Classic environment is fully functional.

With some suggestions from different searches I got all of the printers working. One way suggested was to right click the file and check the "Run in Classic" check box. That worked for one of my printers. Another had suggested installing the printer in OSX, then manually adding the OS9 PPD file to System Folder/Extensions/Printer Descriptions. That worked for the three other printers. I have a new problem now, unrelated I will post a new thread. Thank you all for your great help.
