Question Cursor Freezes

I have a two month old MPB. Initially I connected it to an external trackball and everything went well. Now I am on a trip and find that my trackball freezes for several seconds before reacting. It happens more in some apps than others but it has bothered me on the dock and in Mail. The greatest delay is in MacSudoku.
I tried a second account into which I have not installed anything and had no trouble there. I tried my main account with a Safe Boot and had the problem.
I went back to older clones of my system and had the problem on my main account.
I am running OSX 10.4.9 and have 2 GB ram.
Any ideas would be appreciated

This has not happened to me yet but have you tried repairing the users permissions? Other then that, try creating another administrator account and you should be able to run all the programs. The only thing that you will not have is your user files. You can just transfer the files.

Cursor freezes

Yes, I have tried repairing permissions. No difference.
I have a different account and have no trouble there, although I cannot play MacSudoku there. It says "missing support files". I suppose I have to download the application into that account.

After rereading your intial post, it says that you initially were using an external trackball. Are you still using that mouse? Since your on a trip, I'm going to gather that you have a notebook. What if you use the notebooks mouse, does that freeze?
