 Help With PowerMac G4 running tiger osx When starting up and I am at the apple signal with the revolving circle it spins and spins and eventually stops then it will just sit there. I decided to try and format the system and start over, and that didn't help. I can only start it up in safe mode and now my audio won't work it says their are no output devices found, and all of the moving elements on the mac I.E. Genie Effect, Dashboard, and all other animations are choppy. I can't start it up in safe mode all the time. Can anyone please help? Thank You, Sincerely -Rob  |

| I am assuming you have verified/repaired permissions. What is the S.M.A.R.T status of you hard drive (Applications/Utilities/Disc Utility)? If it is OK, you could try some repair software: DiskWarrior - $100 TechTool Pro - $100 Cocktail - $15 Applejack - Free I would at the very least run Applejack. P.S. Can you include a few details such as processor, memory Mac OS X version etc.

| I repaired all the permissions and all. It didn't help at all. These are the features I can tell off the top of my head: 800 dual Mhz processor 1.5 Gbs of Ram Their are two hdds in the system, the main and a secondary. I haven't tried disc warrior yet, but I honestly don't know how that would help since the hdds are operable considering it starts up in safe mode. I will try it in a lil while, and if there are any other things to try please feel free to post them so I can try them in case disc warrior does nothing. Thanks -Rob. |

| If the second drive has OS X installed on it may boot instead. To see id it does have a boot able system just hold down the 'option' key while powering on. This will show a crude representation of which drive you can boot from. Good Luck. Also take the Mac's System Restore disk or a standard OS X install disk and then boot with that (by holding down the "c" key). From the first install screen you can go to the menu items and select "Disk Utility". With that you can Repair the disk and also try to restore it. Like others said Allsoft's DiskWarrior IMHO is the best program to repair a system sick Mac. That program has saved my butt more times that I care to mention.

| I tried installing on the second drive and it will only boot on it right after the installation from the disc but as soon as you shut it down it won't boot unless you boot in safe mode. Disk Warrior did nothing. I have no idea what to do. It can't be the drive giving the error. Can anyone help? |

| It doesn't see the new drive if you hold the option key at startup, or select it as the bootup disk from the install CD? If you have the original disks, one should have a hardware test CD. You may have a bad logic board, processor, or bad RAM. Try testing your memory with memtest http://www.memtestosx.org/

| No it will startup from it but only if I do so in Safe Mode. Regardless of the drive it will still only start up in safe mode and I want to get it to start up properly the way it should. Is there anyone who can help me?
