Question Start Up Problem - FinderIcon in a file

Hello,

I have a Powerook G4 whichas been running well fomany years. I am running OSX Tiger and hae maintained the the online updates.I recently started my Powerbook and it did not compete the stratup pocess. Rather, all that came up is a small icon of a file (looks like a traditional filing cabinet file) with a small 'Finder Icon' within it. Nohing else happens I do not have the mouse or any other funtions.
Any idea on what this means and how I can fix it?
Regards Adrian

Well it sounds like maybe your hard drive went south. That screen is telling you it can't find a startup drive. Boot with an OS X install disk and see if you can repair that the hard drive. Also a program like DiskWarrior might help.

Hi, Thanks for confirming what the issue may be. Unfortunately I think you are absolutely correct. I have tried booting with the Tiger OS disc as per instructions I found on the mac site. This didn't work. The message I got was along the lines of there not being any applications or something similar available. I have taken the Powerbook to a local mac repair centre. Hopefully they can salvage my photographs.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Adrian
