| GIMP & iPhoto 5 I have been noticing different image quality of my photos when viewed with iPhotos Edit view & window and GIMP. The best to worst are from GIMP, where I edit the photos, iPhoto Library window, iPhoto Edit window and then iPhoto Edit View. They look clear and sharp when viewed with GIMP and not so sharp with iPhoto. I use Image Capture to import my photos from a USB card reader to a folder using the default (I think) Camera RGB Profile that's in Options. Weed out the ones I don't want then open and edit them with GIMP, mostly just Levels and Unsharp Mask, save them to another folder and when I am done with all the photos I import them to iPhoto using the Add to Library if the File menu. An ideas why the photos would look different viewing with GIMP and iPhoto? Would using a different Profile make a difference? I'm using a 15" AlPB G4 Oct 2005 rev w/1GB RAM and the screen is calibrated with the Display Calibrater Assistant. The foreground picture is the GIMP window and the background is from iPhotos Edit View window. Notice the sharpness in the GIMP window. ![]() |

| It looks different because they use different algorithms to display images. iPhoto'08 is slightly better, but not perfect.

| Yes, this drove me nuts from day one of OS X. Preview is still really terrible... it actually tries to blur the picture.

| If I were to print an 8 X 10 photo from iPhoto, would it print the same as it looks in the iPhoto window? I haven't got a photo printer yet and the printer I'm using now is not good for printing photos. |

| The printing is very good. Only the display on the screen is not what we expect.
