Finder crashes when I try to change permissions

In Tiger, I was able to allow my assistant to access our QuickBooks file over our wireless Bonjour LAN simply by letting her log into my machine as me. With Leopard, that didn't work, so I set up the folder in which that QB file resides to be shared with her, using the sharing preferences pane. Didn't work either. So I tried to change the permissions of the QB file itself, and discovered that the Finder crashed and immediately restarted when I tried to add my assistant as a new user with full access to that file.

So then I tried to change permissions on a couple of other random files -- one a Word document, one an OmniGraffle document. Same Finder crash and restart happens.

Tried it on my Powerbook, which is also running Leopard, and no problems. Any suggestions short of an Archive and Install?

Maybe repair permissions?

I believe if you put it in your computer's Drop Box folder then as long as she can access your computer (it's running and on the LAN) then she should be able to see the file.

You could try to change permissions with terminal using chmod ### (/path\ to\ file/file). There's also a way to change group access, but I don't know what it is off the top of my head.

I've had the same issues. I have managed occasionally to get it to work, but it is by no means following a pattern I've noticed yet. I had thought that I could only change it if you were in the account named as "owner" of the file, but that failed the second time too.

I have multiple accounts on Tiger accessing the same Quicken file. Took me some time, and I wound up doing it via the chmod command. This is not working with Leopard, so I'm still doing joint bank work on my old iMac until I can find a solution.
