Leopard on MacBook Pro: remapping delete key in Terminal?

On my MacBook Pro running Leopard, I'm trying to remap the delete key so that it sends a ^H instead of a ^? in the Terminal application. I went to System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts and tried to add a new entry under Application Keyboard Shortcuts for the Terminal application, but I can't figure out how to make the utility accept the delete key as the one being remapped.

Is there any way for me to remap the delete key in this way within the Terminal application?

Yes, I know that I can use the "stty" command inside of the shell that Terminal brings up so that ^? is treated like a destructive backspace, but this is not what I want to do. It's important to me that ^H is sent by the delete key within the Terminal app, if at all possible.

PS: the delete key desn't seem to be offered as being remappable within Preferences -> Settings -> Keyboard of the Terminal application, either.

PPS: under Preferences -> Settings -> Advanced in Terminal, I have Delete sends Ctrl-H checked, but this setting seems to be ignored, and when I restart Terminal, it goes back to being unchecked.

Thanks in advance.

Never mind on this. Delete sends Ctrl-H does indeed work. I was doing something else wrong. I'm sorry for the false alarm.
