| How can someone else use MY Tiger disk on THEIR mac I sold the disc that came with my iMac with tiger to someone. When they use it, they get lines of code and it wont install. How can they install it with my disc? "What happens when I restart my iMac with Disk one in the cd tray, and holding down the shift and "C" keys, as the instructions say to do. is that a few dozen lines of code are displayed on the screen, the last line of which is "We are hanging here.". At that point my computer will respond to no input and must be turned off and the disk ejected at reboot. If I attempt to use the disk without restarting my computer, when I highlight the disk icon on the desktop, and select "File:Open" I get a "poof" image flash on the screen but nothing else happens. Same if I simply double click the disk icon." Thanks

| YEah, those aren't meant to be sold. They are OEM discs that only work with the Macs that they come with. Also, remember that those discs come with software that don't come included in the retail version of Mac OS X, which is what makes it illegal to sell. My recommendation is to return the money back to the buyer and recommend that he purchase a copy of the retail OS X, be it Leopard or an older version of Mac OS X like Tiger (which should be much cheaper now). Besides, if you decide to ever sell that Mac, not having the OEM discs that came with it will also significantly reduce the value of the Mac.

| Basically, the only "full" license of Mac OS X you ever can buy is bound to the computer it comes with. Everything else is an upgrade license. That retail Leopard version you see in stores and on apple.com: It's an update to the OS X version you already have. (Leopard only runs legally on computers that originally came with OS X, anyway.)
