Itunes Duplicate tracks elimination

I couldn't find this in the forums, I'm sure its out there somewhere --

I lost my Itunes Library -- I thought I had it backed up -- I didn't -- Apple restored my purchased tunes, however all my purchased tunes up to that point were restored in duplicate -- two of each song -- If I erase one and empty trash, the other one doesn't work -- I don't believe the duplicate songs are taking up memory, I'd like to eliminate at least their appearance and because if you want to listen to a certain song, it will play twice --

Is the only way to go about this to Burn a copy of the duplicates to disc -- erase tunes on Itunes and re-burn?

I am scared to mess with my Itunes Library, the disc burning is simply just time consuming and Itunes does not want to re-burn RW discs for some reason...

There may be an optimum way to do this but whenever I find myself with duplicates this is how I deal with it:

Firstly I go to View ~> Show Duplicates.

Then I sort them by Name then I right click on each song, one by one and select "Show In Finder".

This takes some time but when you see where each of the dupes lives in Finder then you can safely delete whichever dupe you don't want.

I'm afraid I don't know any easier way to do what you require other than that.

Thank you for your response -- I have done the 'Show duplicates' and have eliminated the duplicates in a folder then burned the solo copy onto disc -- erased both copies then re-burned -- slow, but its getting ther job done.

Thanks for your help.
